Versace for H&M: 2012 line confirmed

A follow-up to the current Versace for H&M collection will go on sale online this January.
A spokesperson for H&M confirmed to WWD November 22 that a spring pre-collection designed by Donatella Versace will be available January 19, although only in countries where H&M has an e-commerce site such as the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Auction site eBay currently offers the best chance of getting hold of the most popular items from the Fall/Winter 2011 line which hit stores across the globe last week, so those who have failed to get their hands on the line will be relieved to hear of this second chance.
The news follows a recent report in British newspaper The Mirror, where images from what it claims to be the Spring/Summer 2012 line can be seen. Items including gold strappy sandals, fruit print bikinis and berry patterned hotpants are on display.
The news of the second line comes as a surprise as many of H&M’s past collaborations with labels such as Stella McCartney and Lanvin have only been for one season. The Sonia Rykiel collaboration was a two-season partnership, although the 2009 lingerie line and 2010 knitwear collection were announced at the same time.
Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, whose H&M capsulecollection went on sale back in 2004, has previously criticized the limited edition nature of the designer partnerships, saying it leaves many customers disappointed.
Meanwhile, there has still been no word on whether the rumored Tom Ford for H&M line will go ahead.
Last week H&M’s creative adviser Margareta van den Bosch toldBloomberg Businessweek that Ford is “a very interesting name.”
